Urgh

Hell of a time trying to get back into the swing of things, and I'm going to get hit with another four-day weekend in just a couple days.

I just can't deal with so much time off. I lose my rhythm.

Sick, isn't it?

Sunday morning sleep-in #116

Again? Really?

Those people lose airplanes like I lose socks in the dryer.
How did I live and work over there so long without disappearing over the ocean somewhere?

(Actually, I remember now that there was a list of airlines we were not allowed to fly on.)

A Bit of History

Seventy-four years ago, Dec 29th and 30th, 1940. The Luftwaffe firebombed the ever-loving shit out of London.

We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle, nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down. Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.

Saturday Morning Coffee #137

SrA B skyped in from England last night. We spent two hours chatting (and drinking).

That kid is a huge, festering ball of testosterone. He spent quite a bit of time going on about his first body-building competition coming up this spring, and all he is doing to prepare for it.

Pics to follow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss B got us the first season of Game of Thrones on DVD.

Despite my proficiency at publishing Hump Day Rule 5 posts, I must admit to having only watched a couple episodes of the show over the years it's been on.
Now we start from the beginning, and by Episode 5, Mrs B is hooked.

Double, Double Toil and Trouble

Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What the hell is going on here? Someone dropped a work day right in the middle of my vacation.

Not much to do. I'll catch up on some paperwork and take a quick jog up to Decatur and back.

I'll also have to stop by the shop and pick up Miss B's car, which decided to blow the radiator as soon as she arrived. I really didn't need that $500 anyway...

Alabama Christmas 2 Days To Go

Not everyone enjoys the storybook Christmas. Sometimes the family stuff is hard to take.
You don't get to choose your family. You're stuck with what you've got.
Love them anyway.

I'm awfully grateful for the family I've got.

Sunday morning sleep-in #115

Ever wonder what the world would be like without guns?

Well, wonder no longer...

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's son mugged

You see, Rahm, there will always be someone bigger and stronger who will decide that he wants what you have. In a place where you have outlawed a person's ability to defend themselves, those bigger and stronger will simply take what they want by inflicting pain until it is given to them.

I hope the boy comes through OK.

In other news

Keep an eye on Russia, I think things are going to get very interesting over there.
With the whole Crimean peninsula thing, the sanctions thing and now the value of the ruble dropping like a stone...things are looking very 1939-ish back in Ye Olde Europe.

Vladimir is no pussycat. Desperate men do desperate things.

Saturday Morning Coffee #136

Chlorine will oxidize iron out of your water, but you need to have plenty of contact time, either a long run of pipe or a tank to keep the chlorine mixed with the iron for 20-30 seconds.
Run it through a sand filter and voila!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm getting back to my old ways of workaholism. I'm dreaming about work when I'm sleeping now.
I hope this holiday stretch is quiet. I need the rest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Miss B arrives tomorrow. We're looking forward to it.

All our gizmos and computer stuff will be running again.

If it's not absolutely critical, we just say "[Miss B] will fix it next time she visits."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoa! I missed one last Wednesday!

Going Full Curmudgeon

Mrs B returns home saddened by her visit with her doctor.

He informed her that will no longer deal with insurance agencies. Not our insurance, not anyone's insurance. He is throwing in the towel and will take cash paying customers only. He was of course very nice about it, offering to help her find another doctor for her regular quarterly visits to get her prescriptions renewed.

I did not get a chance to ask him about it, but I imagine he has simply gotten tired of the bullshit.
I've met him a couple times. He is a fine old gentleman, who has got to be thinking about retirement by this time. I suppose he is "thinning the herd"a bit.

Mrs B likes him and trusts him. Going out and finding another doctor right now is out of the question.
So I will happily shell out 10x the cost per visit.

The free market works. I think we are going to be paying for the damage done to our country by the current president for a long time to come.

Hump Day Rule 5 - Happy Hanukkah!

IDF chicks are hawt!

What was that thumping noise?
I think my Irish Catholic grandma just rolled over in her grave.

Back in the Land of the Internets

I swear dude, coming out of Mississippi is like crossing back into the 21st Century.

First thing I come across is a post from The Mellow Jihadi (Ex Bootneck) on some sweet, sweet justice in Warrior, AL. (which I just drove through today on my way to Decatur)
He writes with an inspiring point of view from across the pond.

Nice to see my fellow Alabamaganians are keeping the faith.

I'm Home! Sweet Home!

Hold Music

Feeling a little folded, spindled and mutilated.

With any luck, I can go home tomorrow.

How's your job treating you?

Needs subtitles:

Wasted and wounded, it ain't what the moon did, I've got what I paid for now
See you tomorrow, hey Frank, can I borrow a couple of bucks from you
To go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda,
You'll go waltzing Mathilda with me

I'm an innocent victim of a blinded alley
And I'm tired of all these soldiers here
No one speaks English, and everything's broken, and my Stacys are soaking wet
To go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda,
You'll go waltzing Mathilda with me

Now the dogs are barking and the taxi cab's parking
A lot they can do for me
I begged you to stab me, you tore my shirt open,
And I'm down on my knees tonight
Old Bushmill's I staggered, you'd bury the dagger
In your silhouette window light go
To go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda,
You'll go waltzing Mathilda with me

Now I lost my Saint Christopher now that I've kissed her
And the one-armed bandit knows
And the maverick Chinamen, and the cold-blooded signs,
And the girls down by the strip-tease shows, go
Waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda,
You'll go waltzing Mathilda with me

No, I don't want your sympathy, the fugitives say
That the streets aren't for dreaming now
And manslaughter dragnets and the ghosts that sell memories,
They want a piece of the action anyhow
Go waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda,
You'll go waltzing Mathilda with me

And you can ask any sailor, and the keys from the jailor,
And the old men in wheelchairs know
And Mathilda's the defendant, she killed about a hundred,
And she follows wherever you may go
Waltzing Mathilda, waltzing Mathilda,
You'll go waltzing Mathilda with me

And it's a battered old suitcase to a hotel someplace,
And a wound that will never heal
No prima donna, the perfume is on an
Old shirt that is stained with blood and whiskey
And goodnight to the street sweepers, the night watchmen flame keepers
And goodnight to Mathilda, too

Quiet Time

Internet here in beautiful Mississippi is a nightmare.

I'm sitting in the Wendy's parking lot to feed my jones.

I'll be done here in a couple days.
