Sunday morning sleep-in #43

Happy Easter everyone.

Back on a plane for Bama.
Sunday dinner will be peanuts and diet Coke in Economy Class.

Terrible misunderstanding at Wal-Mart yesterday.

Apparently, when the woman said "Strip down, facing me"

she was referring to my credit card.

Saturday Morning Coffee #56

Looks like we missed out on the nice brick home. Someone got in there and made the guy an offer for a "lease purchase" agreement before I could get back to him and let him know we wanted to rent the place.

Our second and third choices are both handled by a Realtor that I don't have a very good impression of.
That impression was not helped much by the fact that they keep their office in an amazingly run-down neighborhood. So run down, in fact, that their customers who drive nice rental sedans with out-of-state plates into and out of the neighborhood (to pick up the keys for houses to view), get jacked up and shaken down by the local cops.

When I was returning the last set of keys, Officer Friendly* decided he would pull me over for failing to signal a right turn at least 50 feet ahead...even though I was sitting in dead-stop a light. This was the same officer who I noticed earlier had followed me out of the neighborhood and all the way to the edge of town that morning when I had picked up the keys. (I even asked if that was him during the "Terry Stop" and he said it was.)

After the usual stuff you've seen on a million 'Cops' episodes, getting frisked, getting relieved of my pocket-knife, the usual round of pointed questions, etc.. The conversation wrapped up in pretty much the way you would expect...

Officer Friendly* - Is it okay if I take a look around inside your car?

MSgt B - Nope.

I've decided it's time to put Anniston, Alabama in my rear view mirror and leave it there.
We will go back to the drawing board and start looking a little closer to Birmingham.

Time is beginning to run short. We need to be moved down there by the end of the month, and I hate rushing these things.

* - Not his real name

Good to be Home

It's nice to be home for a few days.

The amount of work I need to get done over the next three days is appalling.

I have nothing to say. I'll spend my time catching up reading everyone else's blogs.

Hump Day Rule 5 - Mr Bean's Daughters

That's Lily Atkinson with her father and mother at a London event.

She's quite the bird.

That's nothing. The real stunner is his other daughter, Gemma.

It must be something in the milk over there...

Bonus shot:
Gemma Atkinson before the plastic surgery.

The Big House

One more place to post for the old lady.

This is a seriously nice home in a great neighborhood, but the price is a tad high.
I'd love to rent this place, but the whole idea of moving from Virginia to Alabama was that our basic housing costs would go down. So, if this guy can't negotiate on the rent, it's a non-starter.
I'm definitely going to try to work him over on the rent.

One quick video, just a scan of the neighborhood. (Which is very nice)

And then there's some pics. Mine didn't come out very well. I saw the place early in the morning, and the sun coming through windows kept screwing up the lighting in my shots.
I'm not Oleg Volk.

So I "borrowed" a few pics from the online listing as well. They were actually an accurate accounting of the interior of the house. (Which can be rare these days)

Monday Music

Had a great time meeting Borepatch and his lovely wife, along with Mary and the Bobs (Big and Little) and Wolfgang.
I had "The Undertaker" burger, comes with bacon, cheese, fried egg and fried onion rings. I made sure they used pepper jack cheese. That was awesome.
Of course, no pictures. I was having too much fun just chatting.

The Redskins must change their name?

Really? Our elected representatives have so much time on their hands, they need to introduce bills to force the Washington football team to change their name because "Redskins" is offensive to American Indians?

I'll tell you what I find offensive...our elected representatives budgetary ass-clownery.

Here's another Macklemore tune. Same guy that did the horrible dance tune that I posted last Saturday.
Give this one a listen, I promise you'll be amazed.

I like him as an artist. He has no fear.

Need to be in Mobile tonight, it's time to strap on the colander...

Sunday morning sleep-in #42

Wow, I actually slept in this morning. Until something like 9 am.
By the time I went downstairs, I'd missed the breakfast in the lobby. Not that I actually eat breakfast, but that's a first for me.
They still had coffee out, of course.

Driving back and forth between Alabama and Georgia means I keep crossing time zones and having to roll my watch back and forth. It's really been messing me up.
I think, once I get moved down here, I'm simply going to refuse to go on Georgia time.

I live in hotels.

The upside is that I'm now a super-gold-platinum-whatever honors member.
When I check in, they give me a goody bag with a bottled water and some treats.
How many nights do I have to stay to get the free hummer?

Yesterday's treat was Cracker-Jacks.

I had no idea how good they are with beer.
The last time I ate Cracker-Jacks was when I was, like, 12 years old.
That burnt-popcorn caramel flavor goes awesome with beer. I had no idea.

It's my new favorite snack now, but the prizes sure aren't what they used to be.
I remember actually getting little plastic toys and such. Now I get a little scrap of paper that I'm supposed to fold into an I-don't-know-what.

Cheap bastards.

I hit traffic in Atlanta.

From what everyone tells me, that's the norm, but I sure don't get to see this every day.

The worst of the smoke was coming out of his exhaust pipe up top. I'm betting he cracked that block. That's quite a feat.

Off to Borepatch's blog-meet today.

I'll get some pics if I can.
Some people are touchy about getting their picture taken. You know who you are.

I'll be wearing my Hoplorati hat.

Saturday House #1 - MSgt B's new fave

I really really liked this place.

Out on the edge of town, it's got beautiful countryside not more than 1/4 mile away, but you can still drive into downtown Jacksonville (AL) in about 5-10 minutes.

The place was still being cleaned up by the young couple moving out, so some of the pics look a little trashy, but it's nothing that will still be there when we move in.

Let's see what the old lady thinks...

 Two-car garage.

Fireplace in the living room, raised dining room at the back.

The downstairs "Office" on the other side of the entryway from the living room.

Downstairs 1/2 bath with laundry hookups.

The "mud room", looking toward the garage.

The "mud room", looking toward the kitchen.

Master bedroom. Master bath on the right, small walk-in closet on the left. There's a second closet to my left out of the picture.

 Bedroom #2

Bedroom #3

Shared bathroom upstairs.

Saturday House #2 - The outside

I couldn't get inside this place on the weekend, but I like the looks from the outside.
I think it's worth a second look. (On the inside)

Plenty of room for the boat, and the neighborhood is nice and secluded. Listen to the background noise on the video.

Does the old lady think it's worth a visit to see the inside?
